In the last few months, we have seen the need to continue to rise in our community. Last month we saw 533 households’ shop at our Market. We have distributed just under 400,000 pounds of food since January.
While many families cherish the holiday season, the majority of our Lowcountry neighbors struggle daily to meet their basic needs and the holidays add an additional level of stress to their household. At Bluffton Self Help, our longstanding tradition is to ensure that every Lowcountry neighbor can bring home a turkey or ham, and holiday trimmings.
Thanksgiving Most Needed Items:
Whole Turkeys or Hams, Canned Fruit, Peas, Carrots, Tomatoes, Canned & Boxed Potatoes, Canned Sweet Potatoes, Cream Soups, Broth, Gravy, Bread, Cake, Cookie Mix, Brownie Mix, Frosting, Pie Filling, Pie Crusts, Shelf Stable Salad Dressings, Large Disposable Roasting Pans.
Pantry Staples Needed:
Canned Meats (tuna/chicken), Canned Meals (chili/beef stew/hearty soups), Canned Peas & Corn, Canned Tomatoes (paste/whole/crushed/etc.) Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Shelf Stable Cheese, Taco Kits, Salsa, Black Beans, Skillet Meal Kits, White Rice, Cooking Oil, Flour, Sugar, Breadcrumbs, Baking Mixes, Mayonnaise, Ketchup.
Toy Drive:
Starting on November 1st we will be collecting holiday toys for our neighbors. Bluffton Self Help opens a Toy Shop each year in December so that neighbors can shop for their families, without the financial burden.
Our Volunteers:
To note, we could not do the work that we do without the support of our volunteers. We currently have 360 volunteers who are greeting our neighbors in The Market, tutoring our education classes, and supporting folks when they come to The Hub for assistance. As the holiday nears, we are especially grateful for everything they do for us.
