We’re on location this week because I’m at the fabulous Cooperstown Dream Park in New York with the 12U Bluffton Waves. We play our first game at 8 p.m. tonight, and I hope to have good news to report tomorrow, but today we have another district champion to celebrate.
The Hilton Head 10U Minors All-Stars completed their perfect run through the Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 tournament with two more wins Wednesday night. Bluffton made things more difficult for the Island Boys in a rematch of Monday’s lopsided game, but Hilton Head held off a late rally for a 9-5 win before blasting Beaufort 12-0 in the finale with Finley Thompson and Christopher Fontana combining on a one-hit shutout.
Total run differential in four games - 56 to 9. Next stop Clemson for the state tournament starting July 15th.
Looking to the links, Hilton Head Island’s Brooke Niclaus followed up an opening 83 with a 77 to finish fourth in the girls division at the SCJGA Players Series at Cheraw State Park, and Bluffton’s Cade Kriscunas is tied for 2nd after the 2nd of 3 rounds at the SCJGA Grant Bennett Florence Junior Invitational. The Hilton Head Prep standout fired a 2-under-par 68 Wednesday after opening with even-par 70 and is two shots behind leader Jack Seward of Florence.
