We had a night off from live action last night as the spring season draws to a close this weekend, but a flurry of student-athletes from May River High School celebrated their plans to play at the next level.
There are few better feelings for a high school athlete than signing to play at the next level, and six May River Sharks fulfilled that dream on Wednesday. In front of a packed crowd of fellow students, the college-bound Sharks signed their letters of intent to take their talents to the next level.
It was a bittersweet day for football sensation Jaiden Jones, who worked tirelessly to earn an offer to play at Morehouse College in Atlanta. A two-way star who shined as a power runner on offense and a gritty and vicious tackler on the other, Jones is ready to make his mark in the college level as a Maroon Tiger.
Track and field star Mackenna Swinton also put pen to paper, signing with Claflin University. She’ll finish out her high school career this weekend in the 4A state championship, competing in the discus and shot put.
Track Teammate Cohen MacDonald will continue his career at North Greenville University to run both track and cross country.
And soccer standout Auston Kestler will take his talents over to Newberry College. A veteran on Misael Garzon’s squad, Kestler showcased his clutch finishing ability numerous times, including on a highlight reel game-tying goal in the playoffs last year at Myrtle Beach.
And two swimmers made their college plans official, as Shelby Gourley inked with Illinois State while Hannah Yemec signed with Rider University.
A group of six standouts that shined in the classroom and on the field, and have earned the right to do it on the next biggest stage.
Congrats to all the signees. Go be great!
