SPORTS REPORT

The rosters were announced this morning for the annual Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl, aka the North-South all-star football game, and four Lowco standouts are on the list of the top seniors in the state who weren’t already selected to represent the Palmetto State in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Bluffton Bobcats defensive leader Jeremiah Curry earned a nod, and he will be joined on the South defense by Whale Branch Warriors DB KJ Chisholm and Hampton County Hurricanes defensive lineman Ka’Von Chisholm.

The Hurricanes will also have a hand in the offense with star running back Zion Dobson earning a nod and a notation that he will see time at wide receiver and kick returner in addition to helping carry the load in the ground game.

They’ll all get one more chance to showcase their talents at the high school level along with Hilton Head High linebacker Shaikh Thompson, who was named to the Shrine Bowl team.

And going back to the weekend, the Hilton Head Prep girls tennis team repeated as SCISA 3A champs, winning their semifinal and championship matches back-to-back at Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter to defend the title.

And the state swimming championships went off over the weekend and into Monday with a number of individual titles coming back to the Lowco. Hilton Head Prep’s Mark Lofye and Samantha Fenstermaker and John Paul the 2nd’s Riley McGoldrick each claimed two golds at the SCISA 3A state meet, while Prep’s Izzy Lossada won a gold and a silver. Levi Eidson led Hilton Head Christian Academy’s boys to a runner-up finish with two individual runner-up finishes and a silver in the 400 free relay, and Amelia Lockhart made the podium three times on the girls side.

In the S.C. High School League meet, Hilton Head High’s Jackson Voelkel led the Lowco contingent with a bronze in the 50 free and two seventh-place finishes along with top-10s from Bluffton’s Sam Deaton and Andrew Gerschutz, May River’s Mia Yemec, Beaufort’s Grant Stone, and Hilton Head’s Olivia Johnson.
