The Conroy Center has received a new portrait of Pat Conroy, created by North Carolina artist Rachard McIntyre (who lives with autism), commissioned by musical artist and author Randy Blythe (frontman for the heavy metal band Lamb of God). The artwork is now on display at the Conroy Center.
During August, the Center will host two virtual programs--accessible remotely from anywhere.
August 8, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Open Mic Night, hosted by Greenville-based poet Melissa St. Clair and featuring Hilton Head based-poet Jessica Goody, author of Phoenix: Transformation Poems. Open Mic also features a half-dozen other local (and not so local) poets and prose writers reading from their work, for 3 to 5 minutes each, prior to the closing reading of 15 to 20 minutes by our featured writer. Open Mic is live-streamed on the Conroy Center's Facebook page.
August 14: EXPOSE & COMPOSE: Photographic Prompts to Ignite the Subconscious, writing workshop led by Amber Wheeler Bacon. $45/person on Zoom. 6:00-8:00 p.m. Open to writers at all levels of experience interested in learning how to take writing inspiration from a visual prompt like photographs.
