SPORTS REPORT

We’ve been bombarding you with high school football coverage, but it’s not the only sport in season in the Lowco, and Tuesday was a busy night for area volleyball teams, including the May River Sharks whose boys and girls combined to go 3 and 0 on the night.

The Shark girls swept Battery Creek in three sets to improve to 5-2 going into a big region match at James Island on Thursday, while May River’s boys swept Beaufort and Royal Live Oaks in straight sets to improve to 8 and 0. Look out for the Sharks.

John Paul II’s girls ended a long layoff with a 3-1 win over St. Andrew’s and will face fellow unbeaten Patrick Henry at home tonight, while Colleton County picked up its first win and Beaufort Academy knocked off Lowco rival Thomas Heyward.

The Cougars also earned a win on the tennis courts, beating Beaufort 4 to 2, while the Hilton Head Seahawks triumphed on the links, shooting 186 over nine holes to edge the rival Bluffton Bobcats by three shots in a five-team meet at Charleston Municipal Golf Course. Bluffton’s Anna LaPour took medalist honors with a 37.

Football is coming back around though, and quicker than you might think. After last week’s scheduled game against Woodland was wiped out by the weather, the Bluffton Bobcats lined up a home game with Frederica Academy on Thursday night with a 6:30 kickoff, while Battery Creek’s home game against May River also has been moved to Thursday and will kick at 7:30.

We’ll round up all the action on a live episode of the LowcoSports Lowdown late Thursday night after the games, so be sure to subscribe to the Lowco Media YouTube channel so you don’t miss out.
