Coastal Carolina Hospital Expands Emergency Department

HARDEEVILLE, S.C., November 16, 2017  To meet the emergency care needs of the community, four new beds and two new rooms have been added to Coastal Carolina Hospital’s Emergency Department. The expansion increases the department’s total number of beds from 12 to 16 and total number of rooms from eight to 10.

“As the community grows, we’re responding to patient demands,” said Joel Taylor, chief executive officer of Coastal Carolina Hospital. “This expansion boosts the Emergency Department’s capacity to provide patient care by 33 percent.”

The addition of the two rooms includes one psychiatric-safe bed to provide care for patients with behavioral conditions and three fast track beds for lower acuity patients.

“When patients arrive in our ED, they’re assessed and triaged based on their condition. Fast track provides emergency level care for those who have less severe injuries and illnesses,” said Terri Duncan, director, Critical Care Services. “Having these three new fast track beds allows us to serve all of our emergency patients sooner and care for them more efficiently.”

Patients of all conditions who are treated at Coastal Carolina Hospital’s Emergency Department will have access to emergency providers and equipment, including labs and imaging.

Along with the Emergency Department expansion, existing emergency rooms have been updated. “All rooms have been deep cleaned and refreshed with new paint and wallboards,” said Taylor. “The expansion provided us the opportunity to renovate the entire department.”
