The classic Google.com homepage that many are familiar with will look a bit different as the company plans to incorporate a news feed. The website will use data from past searches to show news stories, videos and music relevant to the user and their interests in a Facebook-like manner.
The news feed, which has been tested on a small scale through the Google smartphone app, will allow people to “follow” sources that peak their interest. In addition, Google claims that the feed will feature news from a wide scope of publications—covering the many sides to issues. The feed will also make it simple to fact check or investigate further.
The effort will help Google to keep the public from gathering their news from competitive outlets such as Facebook.
