Hilton Head Regional Healthcare Patient Reunites with Off-Duty Paramedic That Saved His Life

June 19, 2019, Hilton Head Island, SC – On June 11, Joseph Berkner suffered sudden cardiac arrest while vacationing on Hilton Head Island.  Kevin Rainwater, an off-duty paramedic from the Atlanta area, performed CPR on Berkner until Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue arrived on scene to take over care.

Berkner and Rainwater were reunited at Hilton Head Hospital where Berkner has been recovering. Berkner thanks the departments involved in his treatment and care, to include the Emergency Department, Cath Lab and the ICU.

Rainwater received a letter of commendation from Fire Chief Brad Tadlock along with Fire Rescue’s patch and challenge coin. Congratulations to Rainwater for saving a life!
